Easter Egg Potato Stamping: Easter Craft for Preschoolers

Easter Egg Potato Stamping: Easter Craft for Preschoolers

Easter is well on its way! We have been having fun thinking up some creative Easter crafts for preschoolers – and this one is one of our favorites. We have been known to stamp a few veggies over here – with our celery heart stamping and bell pepper four-leaf clover stamping – so it likely will come as no surprise that for this Easter craft for preschoolers, we have been stamping some more… this time with a classic – a potato.

Easter Egg Potato Stamping!

I remember doing potato stamping myself when I was in Kindergarten, so we are certainly not inventing the wheel! But we put a neat little twist on this activity.

To Make this Easter Craft for Preschoolers:

First, I got two potatoes that had nice “egg-ish” shapes (egg-ish? hmmm). I cut them in half, so it now looked like I had four egg shapes.

Then, I gave my little ones some pencils and popsicle sticks, and they poked holes and little lines in their potatoes. It was actually very easy to do – even for my preschooler. When they were finished, they looked like decorated Easter eggs – just without the color.

Finally, we got out the paint and did some stamping!

It was fun to try different designs and patterns. It was also neat for my little ones to see how the marks they made in their potatoes looked when stamped out on the paper. Sam preferred the mix-it-all-together look:

And Madeline was a bit more particular with her designs:

Learning from our experience of our last few vegetable stamping activities, we opted to use paint brushes to apply the paint. My kids love to paint, so we never actually tried to stamp the whole potato into the paint. But I think it would have worked just fine, just not as precise, I’m sure.

This was a quick and easy but super cute and fun Easter craft for preschoolers and big kids. I think we will do it quite a few times more before Easter arrives … and knowing my little ones, we will likely do it well after Easter too. At least judging by the Santa crafts, we still do.

Thank you so much for reading. I hope you are having a lovely week!
