A Woodland Post Office Play-Based Learning Resource

? Imaginative Play
Let’s play mail carrier! Start by creating a postal carrier’s hat—because a hat makes everything more fun! This activity can be adapted for all ages and encourages role play, storytelling, and social learning.
? Literacy
Little Ones: Practice letter matching and learn that writing conveys meaning by figuring out whose mail belongs to whom. They can even create their own letters using first-letter sounds and pictures!
Big Kids: Write letters to the woodland characters—or real friends and family—using our letter and envelope templates. Learn about addressing envelopes and try out the fun word scrambles included in the pack.
? Math
Little Ones: Build spatial and sequencing skills by assembling the woodland cottages and practicing counting with Woodland Post Office I Spy!
Big Kids: Explore measurement and weight by weighing packages on a kitchen scale and determining how many “stamps” each one needs. Create a little chart for extra math fun!
? Art
Build scissor skills as you cut out characters and houses. Decorate bedroom doors or create a woodland wall! You can even turn a cardboard box into your very own mailbox.
✂️ Fine Motor Skills
Cut out stamps, addresses, and envelopes; print names and addresses; fold letters; and deliver the mail—all wonderful ways to strengthen fine motor muscles.
?️♂️ Critical Thinking and Problem Solving
Encourage your child to solve real-world challenges—like delivering letters with incomplete addresses or finding the quickest delivery route. These playful challenges build logical, creative, and persistent thinking.
