My favorite season is almost here! I adore fall. The crunch of leaves, the golden light, the crisp air—it’s all just too lovely to resist. And with changing seasons, I love crafting! I have a beautiful and simple fall craft to share from Seasonal Living with Littles—and it’s a magical one.
This fall fairy craft is quite straightforward and could be modified to work with little ones of all ages. Still, since we are all such creative beings, I suggest that you put those children to bed and get crafty making these whimsical Fall Fairies yourself!
Whimsical Fall Fairy Craft
There’s something about Fall—the rhythm of nature slowing down, the way the world turns amber and cozy, the pull to gather in and get creative. It invites us to play, to nest, and to connect. I love being outside with the littles, crunching through leaves, watching the wind swirl, and then bringing that inspiration inside for some seasonal crafting.
And what better way to start the season than with fall fairies?
I created ours while we were away, and I hung them above the window where they catch the light and gently sway. They look like they’re mid-dance. It’s just the right amount of cozy magic for a fall afternoon.
Ready to make your own?
Materials
Here’s what you’ll need to make your fall fairies:
- Tissue paper (in fall colors—reds, oranges, yellows look beautiful)
- String or thread
- A needle
- A stick or branch (for hanging)
- Optional: A cardboard leaf template
How to Make Your Whimsical Leaf Fairies
Choose two colors of tissue paper and stack them on top of one another. Fold the stack in half.
Cut a leaf shape out of the tissue paper, keeping the base of the leaf on the fold. Do not cut the fold.
(Just leaf it alone. Get it? Leave… leaf? Okay, okay, but I know there’s at least one other fall fairy crafter out there who appreciated that one!)
Tip: If you have a cardboard leaf template, use it to trace your shape before cutting. It makes it super easy!

Unfold the paper. Ta-da! Now you have two lovely leaf shapes, attached at the base.
Crumple a small ball of tissue paper and place it right in the center where the two leaves are still connected. This will be your fairy’s little head.
Gather the tissue paper around the ball to form a neck.
Now comes the slightly gruesome-sounding part (sorry, fairy friends):
Thread your needle and pierce through the neck, then wrap the string around it a few times to secure. Finish by piercing the needle up through the top of the head so the string comes out the top. This will let you hang your fairy.
(I warned you. It sounds a bit sinister when typed out like that—but I promise your fairy will be fabulous and unharmed.)
Tie your fairy onto a stick or branch. Make her a few friends, because no one likes to dance alone.
I hung our little fairy friends above the window frame, and they are so whimsical as they twirl in the breeze. I keep catching myself smiling at them.
And if you’re loving this as much as I am, this craft can totally be adapted for other seasons. We’re already planning some snowflake fairies for winter—think icy blues and soft whites.
